U.S. stocks were under pressure on Wednesday as U.S. Treasury note yield rates escalated, with the 10-year rate topping 4.67% and the 2-year rate exceeding 4.95%.
The Nasdaq hiked for the third consecutive trading day, but failed to sustain its early uptrend. At close, it only added slightly by 16 pts or 0.1% at 15,712. The S&P 500 ended nearly flat, 1 pt higher at 5,071. The DJIA finished lower by 42 pts, or 0.1%, at 38,460.
Tesla (TSLA.US) ticked up 12% after it released quarterly results and announced the re-launch of its affordable cars.
Chipmakers advanced before ebbing back. NVIDIA (NVDA.US) closed down 3.3%; Micron (MU.US) also lost 0.6%; Broadcom (AVGO.US) and Qualcomm (QCOM.US) maintained gains, closing up 0.6% and 1.4%.
