President Xi Meets with Blinken, Stressing CN/ US Should be Partners, Not Rivals

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Xinhua News Agency reported. Xi said that 2024 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the U.S., in which the two countries have weathered stormy times.

Xi believed that the two countries should be partners rather than adversaries, should make achievements for each other rather than do harm to each other, and should seek common ground while preserving differences rather than engaging in unhealthy competition.

Xi said his three major principles, namely mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, are both a conclusion reached from the past experience and a guide to the future. It is not only the common wish of the people of the two countries, but also the common expectation of the international community that China and the U.S. should strengthen dialogue, manage differences and promote cooperation.

The Chinese President went on to say that the teams on both sides have been implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state over the past few months, maintaining communication in various areas, and making some positive progress, but there are still a lot of issues that need to be tackled, and there is still room for further efforts.
